St. Patrick’s Day

In 2 days’ time the world turns green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Buildings, rivers and people all go green in celebration of the most recognised patron saint of Ireland. Originally a catholic holiday St. Patrick’s Day has turned into a global event with many cities holding parades and festivities.

It is believed that Saint Patrick used a shamrock to explain the holy trinity to the people of Ireland making it the well-known symbol it is today. Dublin held its first St. Patrick’s Day festival in 1996 that today sees over 1 million people flock to the city in order to be part of the celebrations.

The UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina see large celebrations on St. Patrick’s Day. Day long festivals and parades take up large sections of main cities in which people dress up in their brightest green clothing. Shamrocks are displayed throughout the streets and on festival goers clothes.
