Domestic Car Hire To Die Down?

I recently read a story saying that domestic car hire here in Australia is dying off. With the price of airline tickets going down young Australian’s are jetting off to Europe and the US, making the most of the strong dollar. Even though this may be the case I don’t believe that domestic car hire will “die off”.

It’s understandable that people are taking advantage of cheap overseas deals, and why wouldn’t you. However domestic accommodation and travel in general has had cost increases pretty much on par with overseas countries, making it no more expensive to travel domestically.

Car Hire is one of the easiest ways to get around while you travel allowing you the freedom to travel at your own pace and see exactly what you want to see. Australia makes for the perfect place to hire a car, with main cities so far apart it’s the best way to get around. Plus why would you want to limit yourself to only seeing the city, why not head out of town and see what you can find.

I know a lot of people here who have always wanted to travel around Australia by car or motorhome, with thousands of people doing this every year. Australia has so much to offer and I don’t see people ever giving up on seeing it to head overseas every time they want to go on holidays.

I don’t believe domestic car hire will ever die down and be completely overshadowed by international travel. We have a great country here that Australian’s want to discover and explore, with car hire being by far the best way.

What do you think; will international travel become more popular domestic travel?
