I’m sure we have all heard the stories of untouched beaches of Thailand and the sizzling beaches of west coast America, but what about Australia?
It seems most of the world is forgetting that, not only do we have untouched beauty’s hidden throughout the country, we are also a proud owner of beaches that sizzle. For example Bondi, Main and not to forget Torquay.
For years Aussie’s have been making the journey across the world to visit their idea of the finest beach. Hawaii, Kuta, Cancun and Ibiza, but the funny thing is for half the cost you can have it all in your own country. The best way to experience all that Australia has to offer is to drive, and to seek out those hidden locations which may end up making you walk for miles but the view ends up being literally breath taking.
Because we were getting close to summer and a lot of us like to have a weekend getaway, I made a list of locations which I think are clearly worth visiting.
New South Wales
The home to the notorious Bondi, Manly and not to forget Cronulla beach but not far away from these busy tourist sites sits a collection of pristine and hidden beaches.
Recently I drove down south to an area by the name of St. Georges Basin, which is approximately 2 hour’s drive south of Wollongong. I had heard about a park sporting amazing beach tracks and ended up stumbling upon Booderee Nation Park.
After driving around in circles for a while I eventually found a sign for steamers beach. I decided to lug all my things through the bush track to see what the south coast had to offer….. Surprisingly I have never seen sand so white in my life, and the water was like something you would see from a photo, the place was perfect. There wasn’t enough time to visit the other beaches also within the park such as Green Patch, caves beach and Bristol point. For a small National Park fee it was worth it.
Victoria
Frankston, St Kilda, Torquay, the beaches which Victoria is known for, and not to forget the charming little beach huts on Mount Martha Beach which I did fall in love with why having a
holiday. If you’re going to be situated in Victoria during the hot weather make sure you travel to the Mornington Peninsula. This area is absolutely perfect for Family’s with most beaches having BBQ and playground areas.
If you’re not a real fan of Holiday areas, Why not take a drive to Phillip Island just 90minutes from Melbourne city this nature park is a cool day trip you can’t miss! The park is mostly known for their penguin parades which many people toddle off to see. The island also offers a great swim and surf area by the name of Berry Beach.
South Australia
South Australia; is the state which a lot of Australian’s and visitors from overseas do not know a lot about. Kangaroo Island is located just off the South Australian coast and holds a handful of beaches and bays. One of them is Vivonne Bay; the area itself takes you to another place….. You will forget you’re in Australia. Because the region is not very populated it’s a great place to relax away from the crowds but still be situated close to the towns centre.
Tasmania
Not many Australia’s would think to go to Tassie for a beach holiday, but Tasmania in fact has some hidden gems. Binalong Beach is off the east coast of the island and is a hot spot for tourist. The beach is a long stretch of white sand with golden-brown rocks. Not only is this place great for Victorians to pop on over too, it’s only a 2.5 hour drive from Launceston.
Western Australia
One of the best known beaches in WA is Cable beach. Located at the very north of the state in Broom, there sits a beach with kilometres of white sand and an endless horizon. Not only is Cable stunning throughout the day, you can also check it out during sunset on the camel rides which take place on the beach.
Most of us would never associate Western Australia to be secreting stunning reefs, but in fact they hold a lavish range of reef and aquatic life at Turquoise Bay. If you’ve never tried snorkelling before I would highly recommend trying at Turquoise bay, not only is the location safe, but the water there is calm which is great for learners.
Northern Territory
In the Northern Territory most locals recommend tourist not to swim in many of the beaches or lakes. This is due to the deadly box jellyfish and salt and fresh water crocodiles seen in the areas. Instead they have recommended small springs such as Berry, Howard and Mataranka and Lake Alexander. Sure they may not be beautiful beaches, but each spot deserves to be on this list. Each location contains a natural feel, with most formation not being touched by humans. Major roads and tourist areas throughout the Northern Territory these days contain sealed roads to make driving easier.
Whether you’re doing a Fly / Drive holiday or you’re choosing to drive direct to the location make sure you check out the array of beaches, bays and springs we have right at our front door. If your needing a suitable vehicle for your Driving holiday make sure you check out the DriveAway Holidays website for competitive prices for locations throughout Australia.
