The Haunted , The Creepy & The Plain Weird - Scary Places to Visit Throughout The World

The one day of the year were you can dress as a zombie covered in fake blood and walk down any main street without raising eyebrows.

It seems these days there are still a lot of people throughout the world who do not believe or refuse to celebrate the annual event held on the 31st October. Could it be that a lot of us do not know why or where this celebration came from? And why is it only certain countries really get on board?

There are many different beliefs out there as to where the tradition came from some say it’s the festival of the dead, others seem to link it to back to a Roman feast…. Either way it’s definitely my favourite day of the year. I always find myself scrabbling last minute through the masses of people to find some kind of spine-chilling costume. I thought I would get a little festive and put together some of the creepiest, daunting and bloodcurdling places you can visit throughout the world.

The Winchester Mystery House – San Jose - California - USA

If you’re driving throughout the West Coast of the USA be sure to pop on by to the Winchester House. Not only is the house an amazing sight but the story behind it is even more unbelievable. The house contains 160 rooms and endless amount of staircases, dead ends, doors which open upon walls and windows into other rooms.

The house was originally occupied by Mrs Sarah Winchester until her death in 1922. Mrs Winchester built this house around the perception received from a medium that if she discontinued construction on the house she would end up dying. There are now guided tours running on the premises, make sure you jump on the website and check it out

Bran Castle – Transylvania - Romania

Do you ever remember hearing the stories of Count Dracula? Bran Castle located near Transylvania, situated in the country of Romania. The well-known fictional character Count Dracula by Bran Stokes was said to be based on an individual named Vlad the Impaler which was linked back to this very castle. *His name states it all*

The castle these days offer visitors a museum and the option to partake in a guided tour.

Ossuary Bone Church – Sedlec – Czech Republic

If you’re more into architect and sculptures, drop on by Czech Republic why in Europe. Centuries ago a priest returned from Holy Land and spread earth he had brought back throughout a cemetery. Plagues past and wars ended and many people wanted to be buried on this site. A church then was assembled on this area causing construction and resulting in many skeletal remains having to be unearthed. Today these bones hang throughout the church, in the form of chandeliers and sculptures.

Underground Vaults – Edinburgh – United Kingdom

Many Aussie’s visit the UK every year but you can guarantee most don’t even know the history lying underneath the city. Make sure you have a tour of the Underground Vaults. The vaults were said to be built originally for tradesmen and an area to do business with illicit content. Poverty-stricken families then took up residence many years later. The vaults where only discovered when construction of surrounding areas stumble upon them. There is said to be quite a lot of paranormal activities which happen within the vaults.

Prypiat – Kiev Oblast – Ukraine

The Nuclear disaster of Chernobyl, I’m sure we all have heard or have read about it… now you can experience it. Prypiat is an abandon city very close to the disaster of Chernobyl. This city was recently opened up to the public and has been off limits for nearly 17 years. Currently the radiation levels are considerably low for short visits. One monument which still proudly stands in the city is the Ferris wheel. This place may not be the most ghost ridden town but the eeriness of an empty city would be unforgettable.

Monte Cristo Homestead – Junee – Australian Capital Territory

Last but definitely not least, is a bed and breakfast in our own back yard. Monte Cristo Homestead is approximately 3.5 hours from Canberra and offers a tour, dinner, accommodation and breakfast, that’s if you end up staying that long. There have been numerous reports of sightings not only from visitors but also the owners which had no idea of the history of the house when they moved in. The owners are still discovering the history in which lies in the walls and now you can too.

So there you go some of the most chilling places you can visit. Not only are these dwellings quiet strange, but the history and stories the tour guides tell is nothing you could read or see on the internet.
